If you have a business, you need a blog or website to reach potential customers.

Here are some tips to help you create an effective and successful blog.

    • Create a clear plan. Determine your goal, niche, the type of content you want to provide, and how your site will look. Your plan can change but start with a plan so you'll know where to start and what direction to go in.
    • Select your niche. Be sure to choose a niche you are passionate about and know.
    • Know your audience before starting your blog so you can target your content to them. Focus on your audience. Know who your audience is, and what their needs are, and think about how can you fill their needs with your content.
    • Select a domain name. Getting your own domain is essential to get credibility and promoting your brand. I recommend Godaddy and Namecheap.
    • Get hosting. You’ll need a hosting service to make your blog visible on the web. Choose a host that offers reliable service and excellent support. Although free hosting options are available, they have limitations and won't offer support. Getting paid hosting is a must if you're building a money-making site. And hosting fees start at as little as around $3-4/month.

    • Choose a platform to build a website or blog. I recommend using WordPress to build your site. WordPress is free, easy to use, and provides many benefits. This site is built with WordPress.     • Choose a professional-looking design – There are many free and professional WordPress themes to choose from. Choose a theme that suits your needs and goals and has the look, feel, and features you want. You can try different themes and you can change themes later too.     • Promote quality products or services. You can promote your own products or services or other people's products as an affiliate. Research affiliate products and PLR products in your niche.
    • Provide well-written, unique, interesting content. Providing great content is one of the most important parts of being successful with your blog. Target your content to your audience. Write your own content or pay a writer to write your content. Your content will affect your credibility. Write in a conversational style and easy-to-understand language. If using PLR content, add your own information and unique perspective to make it unique.
    • Capture your reader's attention with images and engage your audience with relevant videos.
    • Add new posts regularly. A blog needs frequent updating and quality content. Set up a calendar to schedule your posts. Quality content will establish credibility and will help people find your blog through search engines.
    • Optimize your blog and posts. Use SEO techniques to rank well in search engines. Including the right keywords will help your search engine ranking. Include keywords in your Web pages to attract your targeted audience and boost your ranking with search engines. Keyword research methods and tools often change so it's best to do some research on the best current tools.
    • Set up Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other social networking accounts. Set up your blog to update social networks whenever you write a post.
    • Build a list. Have a great landing page that is targeted to your ideal audience and ask for your visitor's email address. Visitors typically come to your Website four to five times before they buy from you so it's important to motivate them to give you their email addresses so you can follow up with them.   • Promote your blog. Building a great blog with great content won't do you any good if people don't visit it. You need to build traffic to your blogs. Some ways to do that include promoting your blog through social media like Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and more, email marketing, search engine optimization, forum promotion, paid advertising, and more. Pinterest works especially well to get free traffic to your blog today.
